Handmade Ju Lun Yixing Zisha Teapot – Taohua Clay, 110ml
This is a 110 ml ju lun teapot in Taohua Clay, fully handmade, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 巨轮.
The clay. A soft pink-toned red clay named for peach blossom. Gentle and bright; a lighter reading of the red-clay family.
The form. The Ju Lun form (巨轮) dates to the traditional, popular in Japan. A compact, wheel-like body with a straight spout, long popular with Japanese sencha drinkers. Small, sturdy and unfussy. Built for repeated short infusions.
How it was made. Built entirely by hand — the wall is beaten out from a slab and joined without a mould. Inside the body you can still read the tool marks and the joint line, which is how the method is verified.
Size and tea. 110 ml is the classic gongfu size — comfortable for one drinker or two sharing small cups, and the volume most Chaoshan-style brewing was built around. Best suited to light oolong, black tea and white tea.
This pot. Catalogue no. 349, 110 ml, US$300. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
