Ling Hua Fan Lian Yixing Zisha Teapot – Jiangponi Clay, 110ml
This is a 110 ml zisha teapot in Jiangponi Clay, wood-fired with hand carving, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 菱花梵莲.
The clay. Mined from the slope between Huanglong and Qinglong mountains, where red and yellow ores meet — so the fired body carries both, warm and softly mottled. Fine-grained with a gentle sand feel. It polishes to an oily lustre faster than most clays and brews sweet and round.
The form. This is the Ling Hua Fan Lian form — 菱花梵莲 in Chinese. It is one of the many shapes carried in the Dingshu workshops outside the small set of canonical forms, and it is built by the same slab-and-beat method as the classics. We describe what we can verify: the ore, the method and the proportions.
How it was made. Wood-fired, with carving cut by hand before the firing — so the ash settles into the incised lines.
Size and tea. 110 ml is the classic gongfu size — comfortable for one drinker or two sharing small cups, and the volume most Chaoshan-style brewing was built around. Best suited to black tea, light oolong and ripe pu-erh.
This pot. Catalogue no. 261, 110 ml, US$450. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by an independent Dingshu potter working outside the titled-master system. We do not attach a name we cannot verify.
