Handmade Lianzi Yixing Zisha Teapot – Longxuesha Clay, 110ml
This is a 110 ml lianzi teapot in Longxuesha Clay, fully handmade, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 莲子.
The clay. A deep, dark zhuni — red running toward purple, named for its dragon's-blood colour. High iron, uncommon, and heavier in tone than standard zhuni. Concentrates aroma like zhuni but reads darker and more sober in the hand.
The form. The Lianzi form (莲子) dates to the Ming dynasty, attributed to from the lotus-seed jar. Shaped like a full lotus seed, descended from Ming lotus-seed jars. The lotus rises clean out of the mud — the form carries that reading, and a pun on sons and continuity. Upright, plain and rounded. In continuous use since the Ming.
How it was made. Built entirely by hand — the wall is beaten out from a slab and joined without a mould. Inside the body you can still read the tool marks and the joint line, which is how the method is verified.
Size and tea. 110 ml is the classic gongfu size — comfortable for one drinker or two sharing small cups, and the volume most Chaoshan-style brewing was built around. Best suited to yancha, roasted oolong and black tea.
