Tang Yu Wo Yun Yixing Zisha Teapot – Qing Jiangponi Clay, 110ml
This is a 110 ml tang yu teapot in Qing Jiangponi Clay, clay-painted, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 唐羽卧云.
The clay. The cooler end of the jiangponi seam, firing with a green-grey cast over the warm ground. Same approachable jiangponi character in a quieter colour.
The form. The Tang Yu form (唐羽) dates to the Tang dynasty form, revived in the modern era, attributed to Gu Jingzhou (modern interpretation). Modelled on Tang-dynasty long-handled water vessels, where the handle projects straight out from the body like a feathered shaft rather than looping over the top. Unusual in the hand — you pour with a straight pull rather than a lift.
How it was made. Nihui — painting in liquid clay slip on the raw body, building the image in low relief before firing.
Size and tea. 110 ml is the classic gongfu size — comfortable for one drinker or two sharing small cups, and the volume most Chaoshan-style brewing was built around. Best suited to light oolong, green tea and white tea.
This pot. Catalogue no. 408, 110 ml, US$400. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by an independent Dingshu potter working outside the titled-master system. We do not attach a name we cannot verify.
