For two people, a Yixing teapot usually needs enough capacity to pour two small cups without forcing you to overfill the pot. The useful range often falls between 120ml and 180ml, but the right answer depends on cup size, leaf ratio and whether you use a fairness pitcher.
120ml: compact two-person tasting
A 120ml teapot can work for two people when cups are small and infusions are concentrated. It is still close to the solo range, so it favors focused gongfu sessions rather than relaxed large servings. It can be a good choice if both drinkers prefer many quick infusions.
150ml: flexible middle ground

A 180ml teapot suits larger cups, less concentrated brewing or slower sessions. It may also work when one guest joins occasionally. The tradeoff is that you may need more leaf to keep the same strength, and the pot may feel too large for solo use.
Do not ignore shape
Two pots with the same capacity can handle differently. A wide pot may feel stable and easy to clean. A tall pot may pour with a different angle. A compact round body may be easier to hold. Always compare the handle, spout and lid photos before assuming capacity alone solves the choice.
If shape matters, compare Xishi teapots, Shipiao teapots and Dezhong teapots. If size is the main issue, move between 100–129ml, 130–159ml and 160–199ml.
Simple rule for two drinkers
