Artisan Design Yixing Zisha Teapot – Lipi Duanni Clay, 100ml
This is a 100 ml artisan design teapot in Lipi Duanni Clay, silver-detailed, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 福禄.
The clay. Duanni with a pear-skin texture — fine dark iron speckles scattered through a yellow ground, like the skin of a ripe pear. Highly breathable with a tactile, granular surface.
The form. The subject here is gourd (fu-lu) — in Chinese decorative vocabulary, the same pun, written out: blessing and prosperity. An original design rather than a version of a canonical form. The maker sets the proportions, the line and the ornament. Judged on its own terms rather than against a classical template.
How it was made. Silver inlay or mounting worked into the finished pot.
Size and tea. 100 ml is the classic gongfu size — comfortable for one drinker or two sharing small cups, and the volume most Chaoshan-style brewing was built around. Best suited to raw pu-erh and green tea.
One honest note on duanni-family clays: because the body is pale and very open, dark and heavily roasted teas can leave uneven marks if the pot is handled with oily hands or left wet. Rinse it, dry it, and keep it to lighter teas and it will come up beautifully.
This pot. Catalogue no. 443, 100 ml, US$360. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by an independent Dingshu potter working outside the titled-master system. We do not attach a name we cannot verify.
