Handmade Fanggu Yixing Zisha Teapot – Longxuesha Clay, 200ml
This is a 200 ml fanggu teapot in Longxuesha Clay, fully handmade, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 仿古.
The clay. A deep, dark zhuni — red running toward purple, named for its dragon's-blood colour. High iron, uncommon, and heavier in tone than standard zhuni. Concentrates aroma like zhuni but reads darker and more sober in the hand.
The form. The Fanggu form (仿古) dates to the Qing dynasty, attributed to Shao Daheng. Originally 'imitating a drum' — flat-bodied and round-bellied with a tightly seated lid. The name drifted over time into 'imitating antiquity'. Full, plain and durable. A sensible first pot and a pot experienced drinkers keep coming back to.
How it was made. Built entirely by hand — the wall is beaten out from a slab and joined without a mould. Inside the body you can still read the tool marks and the joint line, which is how the method is verified.
Size and tea. 200 ml is a sharing pot. It suits a table of four or more, or a long single steep of something you want to drink slowly over an afternoon. Best suited to yancha, roasted oolong and black tea.
This pot. Catalogue no. 131, 200 ml, US$85. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by 胡秀萍. We buy directly from the workshop rather than through a wholesaler, so the attribution comes with the pot.
