Artisan Design Yixing Zisha Teapot – Reduction-Fired Zhuni Clay, 180ml
This is a 180 ml artisan design teapot in Reduction-Fired Zhuni Clay, gold-splashed, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 太湖石婷韵.
The clay. Zhuni fired in a reduction atmosphere — oxygen is limited late in the firing, which pulls the iron toward darker, cooler tones instead of bright red. Same dense zhuni body, an entirely different surface. Each firing comes out slightly different, so no two are quite alike.
The form. The subject here is Taihu scholar's rock — in Chinese decorative vocabulary, the pierced, weathered stone of a scholar's garden. An original design rather than a version of a canonical form. The maker sets the proportions, the line and the ornament. Judged on its own terms rather than against a classical template.
How it was made. Sajin — flecks of gold scattered across the fired surface.
Size and tea. At 180 ml this fills three or four cups at once — enough for guests without moving to a full teapot. Best suited to oolong, yancha and black tea.
This pot. Catalogue no. 375, 180 ml, US$350. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by an independent Dingshu potter working outside the titled-master system. We do not attach a name we cannot verify.
