Ju Lun Yixing Zisha Teapot – Qing Jiangponi Clay, 90ml
This is a 90 ml ju lun teapot in Qing Jiangponi Clay, clay-painted, made in Dingshu, Yixing. Its Chinese name is 巨轮.
The clay. The cooler end of the jiangponi seam, firing with a green-grey cast over the warm ground. Same approachable jiangponi character in a quieter colour.
The form. The Ju Lun form (巨轮) dates to the traditional, popular in Japan. A compact, wheel-like body with a straight spout, long popular with Japanese sencha drinkers. Small, sturdy and unfussy. Built for repeated short infusions.
How it was made. Nihui — painting in liquid clay slip on the raw body, building the image in low relief before firing.
Size and tea. At 90 ml this is a solo pot. One person, short infusions, and the small volume means you can push a good leaf through eight or ten steeps without ever brewing more than you drink. Best suited to light oolong, green tea and white tea.
This pot. Catalogue no. 233, 90 ml, US$400. Photographed individually — the images show the pot you receive.
Made by 刘秀华. We buy directly from the workshop rather than through a wholesaler, so the attribution comes with the pot.
